If business process models can fully define their activities and performance constraints ; That process is called structured .
In structured processes, the various decision options that must be made at the time the processes are executed are specified at the time of design.
For example , a credit application process must decide whether a simple credit check (say 5 million) or a higher amount (say 50 million) is needed. Next, each instance of this process uses the amount requested to decide on its chosen branch.

If process planners who have the experience and competence to make decisions about their business practices are implementing business process activities, structuring processes will do more harm than good. It is not possible to ignore specific activities that knowledge workers do not need or to simultaneously execute steps that are sequentially arranged in the process model in structured processes .
To better support knowledge workers, business process models can define processes more flexibly ; In such a way that the activities can be performed in any order and even several times so that the relevant knowledge staff can be sure that the goals of these activities have been achieved.
" Case Study It is a way to support knowledgeable employees who perform business processes with a low level of structure and consequently a high level of flexibility. Instead of determining control flow constraints between activities, micro-data dependencies are used to control the activation of business processes.
